First weekend of October 2020

Not much to say today, so I’ll keep it short. Looks like SF is opening next week and we’re probably getting pretty close in LA too, so it seems like all we’re waiting for is some sort of hope or indication that NY will open soon. Of course NATO is still awful and rather than getting in front of this 5 months ago, they’re asking A list celebs to beg Governors for them.

Same as the last couple of weeks, there’s not much new this week and we’ve got the usual assortment of catalogue films in the mix, but everything that opened the last couple of weeks is holding exceptionally well. The only two films that look down more than the others are Infidel and last week’s K Pop concert film Break the Silence, which is down a lot and it’s typical for a concert film.

Only two films worth mentioning this week.

Neon released a horror film called Possessor Uncut on a couple of hundred screens. Look a lot like IFC’s The Rental that went about the same number of theaters back in July, so it’s not very much.

The Chinese animated blockbuster Jiang Ziya, which opened to massive ($100 million +) the last two days in China, opened on a few screens here. There’s only about 50 screens reporting, but the screen average is much bigger than anything else on the list today.
