Fourth weekend of September 2019
Because the 24 hour news cycle chased off The Hunt from this weekend’s new offerings, we’ve only got one new film this weekend and we’ll probably be down about 15 or 20% from last year. So, based on something I heard from an off duty Intelligence officer at a Georgetown Starbucks, here’s my best take on the weekend box-office.
#1 *Smallfoot 2 Missing Link 2 Abominable *- Yep, more Yeti’s. Although the moviegoing public has been saturated with Yeti’s, you would think everyone is tired of this and the numbers would be very low, but I’m only seeing a little decay today. Figure it’s just behind where Smallfoot was last year and it finishes the weekend at or just below 20. Since this is the 3rd kids film using the same subject, I’d call that a win.
#2 Downton Abbey - It’s down a lot today, but it was so hot last Friday that makes sense. Since it’s such an adult skewing film, I wouldn’t be surprised if it overperforms tomorrow and claws its way up to the standard 50% drop for about $15 million.
Hustlers, Ad Astra, It Chapter 2 and Rambo - Just like last week they’re very close to each other and should all end up between 8 and 10 for the weekend, however they’ll probably end up in the order I put them in.
Judy - Opened wideish today on 500 runs. Looks pretty good right now, figure it’s in the 2.5 to 3 range.
