Labor Day weekend 2019
Labor Day has always been a bit of a garbage disposal for films, but there was usually at least one wide film. This year, a couple of low range wide films making so little noise I almost skipped writing this week. So, with the same grip on the numbers that Dorian Thompson-Robinson has on a football, here’s my best take on the weekend box-office.
Figure the films that are in week 2 such as Angel has Fallen and Overcomer (the religious film, not the porn film) will be down about 50% for the 3 day. You can get a 4 day by adding another 15 or 20% if you want.
For the films that are in week 3 or older, they’ll be down 35 or 40%.
Don’t Let Go - Went 1000 runs and looks like about $3 million in 3 days, $3.7 or so in 4 days.
Bennett’s War - I track films large and small (and sometimes very small) for a living, and if I wasn’t FB friends with one of the film makers I wouldn’t have even known this film existed. Not sure what the marketing budget was but it probably is on the low side of slight. Figure it’s 400k for 3 days and 500k for 4 days on about 900 screens.
