Where it turns up

Tuesday, July 2, 2019 Spider-Man Tuesday, July 2019
On the chart Spider-Man: Far From Home (Tuesday opening day): ~$37M (confirmed in the next day's note)
Expected 'High 30's with a really good shot at 40': under the trades on purpose Actual: ~$37M for the Tuesday
Wednesday, July 3, 2019 July 4th eve 2019
On the chart Far From Home (holiday week): $185.1M six-day through Sunday
Expected 'For today figure it's in the high 20's with a decent shot at 30'; six-day ≈ 6x today Actual: ~$29M Wednesday; six-day $185.1M, the plateau held
In the note Spider-Man: Far from Home - The norm for a film opening mid week is about a 20% drop on the second day (usually Thursday) and this looks in line with that right now (the gross was about $37 million or so for only Tuesday). Of course, everyone is off tomorrow so we could see this slightly over index later tonight.
Friday, July 12, 2019 Second weekend of July 2019
On the chart Far From Home (wk 2): $45.4M, -51%
Expected 'Mid/high 40's for the weekend' Actual: $45.4M, -51%
In the note So, with accuracy normally associated with the thermostat at the AMC Garden State #14, here’s my best take on the weekend box-office. #1 Spider-Man Far from Home - Looking really good today with very little to challenge it, the screen average is running a little ahead of where Homecoming was two years ago on the 2nd Friday, and that finished the weekend at $44.2 for the weekend.
Friday, July 19, 2019 Third weekend of July 2019
On the chart Far From Home (wk 3): $21.2M, -53%
Expected 'Off 50% for a weekend in the low 20's' Actual: $21.2M, -53%
In the note With the heatwave this weekend giving this an upside and the possibility that this might be a little front loaded giving it a downside, I’ll pick a midpoint of about $180 million for the weekend, which will comfortably be a July record. #2 Spider-Man : Far From Home - Looks pretty normal for a 3rd weekend, figure it’s off 50% for a weekend in the low 20’s. #3 Toy Story 4 - Looks pretty good right now, looks like low teens. The Farewell - Expanded to 35 theaters this weekend and looks really good so far.
