So, based on something I heard on a Zoom cocktail hour with people inside the NBA bubble, here's my best take on this weekend's box-office. #1 The New Mutants - Finally arriving in theaters this week after reshoots and release date pushes, this film will clearly land in 1st place.
Friday, September 4, 2020 Tenet Labor Day weekend 2020
On the chart The New Mutants (wk 2): $3.0M, -57%

Another sign that moviegoing should rebound. The New Mutants - As you would expect with a film like this that didn’t do very well in the exit polls, plus had a hot start last Friday, it’s way down today.
Friday, September 18, 2020 Third weekend of September 2020
On the chart The New Mutants (wk 4): $1.6M, -22%
Expected 'Only going to be down another 25%' Actual: -22%

It doesn’t have any real star power, so it’s not going to be as good as Unhinged was a couple of weeks ago, but it’s certainly way better than any of the independent films we’ve seen so far (and some films released by major studios). The New Mutants - For a film that had pretty low exit scores, the market is still holding this up really nicely, looks like it’s only going to be down another 25%. The Broken Hearts Gallery - Since this is the only comedy in the marketplace, this should hold very well, and the numbers so far look very promising.
