Where it turns up

Friday, August 25, 2023 National Cinema Day weekend 2023
In the note Of course the release strategy on Killer Moon feels more like 1963, so maybe there's some brilliant retro idea going on here that I'm missing.
Friday, October 20, 2023 Third weekend of October 2023
On the chart Killers of the Flower Moon (opening): $23.3M
Expected 'Figure it's in the mid 20's. But if that running time pushes moviegoers to the matinees, it could go higher' Actual: $23.3M
In the note I’ll take a stab and say it’s down 65% for a 3 day in the low 30’s. Killers of the Flower Moon - There’s a lot of things happening today with this film that are really good.
Friday, October 27, 2023 Fourth weekend of October 2023
On the chart Killers of the Flower Moon (wk 2): $9.3M, -60%
Expected 'Down about 10 points better than normal... about $12.5 or so' Actual: $9.3M, -60%
In the note Because Dune 2 moved off next weekend for more publicity friendly pastures, we’ll have a down weekend next weekend, but the rest of November looks like a good month for the sector. Right on cue, after I talked about a ‘glass half empty’ world, there were a lot of naysayers talking about the gross on Killers of the Flower Moon saying ‘yeah, but for a $250 million budget it should have opened to more than $23 million’; and they followed it up with ‘and Napoleon too’.
Friday, November 3, 2023 First weekend of November 2023
Expected 'Beginning to stabilize a little, looks down 40% for a weekend in the mid 5's' Actual: $6.9M, -26%
In the note This is dropping so hard you don’t want to stand underneath it, it’s down more than 90% from last week (it’s what Day and Date films do) and that doesn’t even account for the $10 million they did on the Thursday previews that won’t happen this weekend. Figure it’s down 90% for a weekend of about $10 million. Killers of the Flower Moon - Beginning to stabilize a little, looks down 40% for a weekend in the mid 5’s. Priscilla - Went 1400 runs this week, and hearing about the exit data you wonder 'what was the point of the exclusive run last week?' The exits are supposedly good, but not great, so why platform? What’s also interesting is how wide they went, because it’s playing like a big city film, it doesn’t look like it’s connecting with the red state moviegoer at this point and they might have gone too deep.
Friday, October 18, 2024 Third weekend of October 2024
In the note Last year (Killer’s of the Flower Moon, re-issue of The Nightmare Before Christmas) the new films brought in a little less revenue than the new films will bring in this year, the difference between last year and this year will be mostly the gross TAYLOR SWIFT generated.
Friday, November 15, 2024 Third weekend of November 2024
In the note Since this movie was elevated from streaming based on test screening scores, if the exits match those (apparently) high scores, this should have no problem hanging in there and getting its P & A back. And when you add in the fact that the highest opening film that was 'elevated' from streaming was Killers of the Flower Moon at $23 million; this is actually a new record if it stays in the mid 20's. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever - Looking like they're going to have a really strong hold this weekend, but the drop from last weekend won't show that.
