Where it turns up

Friday, May 31, 2024 Final weekend of May 2024
In the note Next weekend will be more of a fair fight with new films when we have Bad Boys Ride or Die vs Transformers Rise of the Beasts, and then Disney comes to our rescue over Father’s Day weekend with Inside Out 2.
Friday, June 7, 2024 First weekend of June 2024
On the chart Bad Boys: Ride or Die (opening): $56.5M
Expected 'At least in the high 40's... I wouldn't rule out getting to 50 or even a little higher' Actual: $56.5M
In the note As always, it’s all about the tagalongs. This weekend is being driven by the 4th installment of the Bad Boys franchise, and although the very lazy entertainment press will tsk tsk anything less than the $63 million Bad Boys for Life did (and we’ll have more ’the sky is falling' in their narrative); there’s a consistency to a decline from one sequel to the next when there’s not a big space of time between editions.
Friday, June 14, 2024 Father's Day weekend 2024
On the chart Bad Boys: Ride or Die (wk 2): $33.8M, -40%
Expected 'Possible this could end up in the high 20's'; apples-to-apples 'drop would be in the low 40's' Actual: $33.8M, -40% raw
In the note The consumer keeps leaving a trail of breadcrumbs outside the theaters that tell us they want to laugh and smile, and maybe the success of the IP + Comedy equation of Bad Boys, Ghostbusters or Garfield alongside the IP free Anyone But You can open the door for the next Anyone But You. But that's not going to happen unless Comedy as a genre gets added to the ‘what are you looking for?’ response agencies get when they talk to a studio.
Friday, June 21, 2024 Third weekend of June 2024
On the chart Bad Boys: Ride or Die (wk 3): $18.9M, -44%
Expected 'A drop around 50% for a weekend in the mid/high teens' Actual: $18.9M, -44%
In the note It was Bad Boys and the other holdovers as well.
Friday, June 28, 2024 Fourth weekend of June 2024
In the note By contrast, Bad Boys: Ride or Die from Amazon is briefly thriving at the box office.” Interesting........umm, you do know that when Bad Boys Ride or Die drops on Netflix, the numbers will obliterate the BHC numbers, plus it will have all that other theatrical and PPV revenue.
