As I’ve spoken to people in the biz over the last couple of weeks I’ve heard ‘but….it’s like Star Wars!…but….it's like Spider-Man!…..), uh huh, this ain’t that.

Last year, both Spider-Man and Sing 2 did what you would expect a Christmas film to do (and then some), but The King’s Man, American Underdog, A Journal for Jordan, West Side Story and Licorice Pizza all struggled and didn’t come close to the business we’ve seen from similar titles over the lucrative Christmas period.

I told you a couple of weeks ago (when Fast X opened a little soft) that we had another expensive film coming down the road which would be a little worse (more on that in a second), but because the Spidey and the Mermaid show is playing so strong, we’re still gonna have really good weekend. Last year on the same weekend, Jurassic World Dominion opened to $145 million so we’ll fall short on a year to year basis.

And burying their heads in the sand is something Nielsen has been doing for a long long time. Anyway, with the accuracy normally associated with NewsNation's Titanic Sub oxygen countdown clock, here are some thoughts on the weekend box-office. We’ve got a little bit of a box-office derby here, and it’s possible Spider-Man, Elemental, The Flash or No Hard Feelings could win the weekend, but here’s my best guess based on what I’m seeing right now. Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse - Looks like DC’s loss is Marvel’s gain here.
