Where it turns up
Friday, September 15, 2023 Third weekend of September 2023
On the chart Dumb Money (8-theater exclusive): $27.6K per screen
Expected 'A promising psa in the low 20's' Actual: $27.6K per screen
In the note
Figure a weekend of $300k or so. Dumb Money - Went exclusive in 8 theaters in NY, LA, SF, Chicago, Boston and DC.
Friday, September 22, 2023 Fourth weekend of September 2023
On the chart Dumb Money (600-run expansion): $2.4M
Expected 'Looks like a weekend of about $3 million' Actual: $2.4M
In the note
Figure it’s down the same 50% for a weekend of about 7. Dumb Money - Sony is following the template that made A Man Called Otto a success, and this seems to be on a very similar path, just at a little lower level.
Friday, September 29, 2023 Final weekend of September 2023
Expected 'A weekend in the low 3's' Actual: $3.3M
In the note
Since the preview was a little better last night than Haunting in thier preveiws this will probably come in a little better as well at $15 or $16 million. Dumb Money - Expanded to 2800 runs today, and it's still struggling to connect with consumers outside the larger markets.
Friday, October 6, 2023 First weekend of October 2023
On the chart Dumb Money (wk 3): $2.1M, -36%
Expected 'Down 35% for a weekend in the low 2's' Actual: $2.1M, -36%
In the note
It’s a shame this got chased out of Friday the 13th weekend by Taylor Swift, films that turn out like this need a smash and grab box office accelerator like you get on that date. The Blind - Having a better than average wk #2 Friday, down about 45% for a weekend in the mid 3’s. Dumb Money - Also having a decent day, looks down 35% for a weekend in the low 2’s. She Came to Me - Went 355 runs, looks like a weekend in the $300k - $400k range. Dicks, The Musical - Went 7 runs; 3 in NY, 2 in LA and 2 in SF and it’s pretty good in all the locations; it’s running about half of what Theater Camp did, so figure a psa of about $30k. The Royal Hotel - Went 267 runs and should end up at about $200k for the weekend. I've been around enough Philly people to understand how easy it is to hate....everything...even your own teams.
