Where it turns up

Friday, October 25, 2024 Fourth weekend of October 2024
On the chart Conclave (opening): $6.6M
Expected 'A really nice start to this run at $5.5 million' Actual: $6.6M
In the note So maybe this is an IP that's a little fragile and the stars just need to align to get what they got last time? This looks like a weekend in the low 50's, but if the 2nd film hadn't over performed, this gross would be about right for the 3rd film in a series that started at 80. Conclave - We're getting into the meaty part of Awards season; so we'll start seeing all the contenders roll out, but many of them usually open to very small numbers at the box-office, or maybe big numbers for the 6 run exclusive and then it drops off quickly on the wide release.
Friday, November 1, 2024 First weekend of November 2024
Expected 'Only looks down 40% or so for a weekend of about $4 million' Actual: $5.0M, -24%
In the note The problem here is the coasts aren't much, so this looks like a weekend around $6 million. Conclave - Looks like this is having some nice legs, only looks down 40% or so for a weekend of about $4 million. We Live in TIme - Also looks like it's holding in nicely, down 35% for a weekend of about $3 million. Absolution - The Liam Neeson conveyor belt just keeps churning out films, this one went 1200 runs and is headed for about $800k. Hitpig - Went 2000 runs and looks like $700k or so. A Real Pain - Searchlight went 4 runs exclusive in NY and LA (Lincoln Sq, Angelika, Grove, Century City).
Friday, November 8, 2024 Second weekend of November 2024
On the chart Conclave (wk 3): $4.1M, -18%
Expected 'Probably down a scant 20% for a weekend of $4 million' Actual: $4.1M, -18%
In the note Weโ€™ll have to see how this pops with the family audience tomorrow but it should end up with at least $9 or $10 million. Conclave - Looks we have the first water cooler film of the awards season, and the grosses reflect that, probably down a scant 20% for a weekend of $4 million. Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom - This Crunchyroll Anime film only went about 600 theaters, and looks headed to about $1.5 million. A Real Pain - Expanded to 12 runs, adding runs in NY and LA, plus added Toronto.
