It looks a lot like some recent high profile films like TAR of Banshees of Inisherin, but not quite as good right now. You would think a film of this pedigree would be blowing those films away in a 4 theater release.

So if we could go in the ‘way back’ machine (and we had confidence a 4 week window combined with a campaign focused solely on Theatrical), could Spirited have worked Theatrically if they would have gone on Nov 4 against One Piece Film Red and Banshees of Inishirn, and then dropped on the platform next Friday for the holidays? Clearly it’s a theoretical exercise, but as the details of the next week develop, it’s something to think about.

This was supposed to be the weekend of Dune 2, but without the ability to leverage the considerable star power on the publicity trail, they tapped out. However, last year it was the same situation (One Piece Film Red and an expansion of The Banshees of Inisherin), so we’ll end up with a very similar cume gross.
